There is a saying that the “first step is always the hardest.”  Throughout our lives, we take many first steps and some are much easier than others.

As a toddler, generally, a child learns to crawl before they gain the courage to pull themselves up and take the very first step of their lives.  As a young child, their thought processes have not been overly tarnished by life experiences and the bravery and excitement of the experience aren’t hindered by overwhelming fear.  As people age and grow, there are a lot of other new steps and experiences that we all encounter.  The first day of school. The first time we ride our bikes without the assistance of training wheels. Our first school play or class performance in front of an audience of adults. Our first school dance. Walking across the stage for graduation. Our first job interview. Our first date. The list goes on but if you think about it, we have taken many first steps in our lives and while they have may have been straight-up frightening, we accomplished those first times and can now look back at those experiences.
