My husband is considered an essential worker as a technician for an alarm company. With that being said, we have taken more precautions to keep our family safe, since he is out more than myself. He steps in customers’ homes and I cannot trust that they are being just as careful. My husband makes sure that he follows and the rules and guidelines his company has additionally placed; wearing masks, carrying hand sanitizer and following social distancing rules, etc. He also makes sure to disinfect and keep his truck clean and finds himself cleaning his work truck more often than he once did. It is not only important to respect and protect the health of yourself but also of those around you.
I am fortunate to be able to work from home but there are times that I do have to go into my office. When that is the case, I am very careful by wearing a mask and washing my hand or carrying hand sanitizer with me at all times. When I leave the office, I always sanitize my desk area and proceed the same way as I entered and ensure that I wipe down anything else that I touched while at the office.
As both my husband and I may be exposed to the virus while working, we have made household procedures when returning home from both work or anywhere outside of the home, to keep ourselves and our family safe:
1. Our shoes are sanitized and left in the garage in a designated spot.
2. We wash our hands immediately and/or shower.
3. We also change clothes and place them in the washer. I find myself doing more and more “quick washes” of laundry to ensure that we are all healthy and will continue to do so.
To ensure that germs and the COVID-19 virus stay at bay, I make sure to keep up with routine cleaning. I have increased the times I disinfect my doorknobs (which before this pandemic, would have never crossed my mind to consistently clean all doorknobs, inside and out). I have increased my daily cleaning routines as well, making sure my counters are disinfected, especially at night (but that just makes me sleep better).
We understand that taking precautions does not mean that we are 100 percent safe from any type of germs or even the COVID-19 virus that has struck our nation hard but we do our part as best as we can. We are all in this pandemic together and are affected by each other’s actions. It is not about “us” anymore. The precautions that both my husband and I discussed and agreed to is to protect us as well as our young child. We urge all service providers to follow strict guidelines as well.
