Why did you choose to work in Family Law?

It would be nice to say that I intentionally chose Family Law, but in all honesty, I had nothing to do with choosing this path. I started working in a law firm when I was 18 years old because I needed a job. I was always interested in the law though, but in actuality, I originally aspired to go into law enforcement like my father. I started working as a receptionist while continuing to pursue my education and eventually started working exclusively with Gwendolyn Sterk, and well, the rest is history. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from Lewis University in 2004, and continued to work, learn, and grow alongside Gwen, finally establishing this firm in 2015.

What is your greatest fulfillment in working in family law?

I think my greatest fulfillment is helping other staff members…supporting them, guiding them, encouraging them; utilizing my 25 plus years of experience I have gained working alongside Gwen and share it with others.

How do you get away from stress and separate your work from your home life?
Hmmmm, well, this is difficult and sometimes impossible, but I guess I would say travel. I love getting out of town because it forces me to disconnect from work and allows my brain time to relax.

Who is your hero?
I think that we work, live and encounter heroes every single day. I think that we all have a
little “superhero” in ourselves; our capes are just invisible.

What is your favorite quote?
I don’t think this is considered a quote, but here goes…Psalm 23:1-6

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love spending time with family and friends. During the summer, you will find me near water, preferably a lake, but a pool or sprinkler will do. During the winter, I love cooking and entertaining. I regularly invite family and friends over just so that I can cook for them. Cooking is my love language. I love making people happy through their stomachs (and mine too).

What do you like about working at Sterk Family Law Group, P.C.

Sterk Family Law is a family. I believe that we strive to create a work family here at Sterk Family Law. Each day, we are all chatting/texting pictures of our children, grandchildren, fur babies, and just our everyday accomplishments, frustrations, encouraging words, accolades, or anything else that is on our minds. It is a nice distraction in the day when we get a picture of a coworkers dog basking in the sun, or a picture of their daughter winning a softball tournament, or in my case, pictures of my son who is in the NAVY, or my daughter going away to college. I guess we at Sterk Family Law need to be a family in order to help our clients with their family needs.

What is your favorite holiday and why?

Easter is my favorite holiday because Easter is a symbol of hope and renewal and new life; who doesn’t need that after a long dark, cold winter?

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I think I would be a hummingbird because firstly, they are beautiful and I wouldn’t have to worry about a food supply because people everywhere are feeding hummingbirds; and secondly, and probably more importantly, because they fly south for the winter. Who wouldn’t want to fly south for the winter?
