When you are meeting with an attorney to get legal advice on your relationship, it does not mean that the marriage is over and that you need immediate representation. Sometimes you just need to speak to an attorney about your situation because you need guidance and need to know what your legal rights and options are. What if you’re not ready for divorce or ready to retain an attorney at all? That is completely okay. Utilize the free consultation and gather as much information and legal advice as possible.
A good lawyer will help identify with you, all of the issues that your marriage has and will also help direct you where the marriage could use improvement if there is a possibility for reconciliation. You can speak to an attorney without your spouse ever knowing as it all remains confidential. An attorney may actually turn you away themselves if there are other options and avenues for you to try first before you decide that divorce is the answer. Some couples may still love each other dearly but there are other strains on their relationship that are taking a hefty or deadly toll on the relationship.
A major reason for the divorce between couples is financial issues. More often than not, when couples have financial hardship the weight that it carries over the relationship can be burdensome and threatening. After meeting with an experienced attorney, they may direct you to a financial planner and/or a marriage counselor if they believe this could help improve the parties’ marriage. If the other spouse has an addiction problem whether it be gambling, a shopping addiction, or drug or alcohol-related, there are professionals that can help and the most caring family law attorneys will provide you with good referrals so that they can seek the help or treatment that your spouse or family needs. Marriage is sacred and couples shouldn’t jump to divorce when things get tough. Remember, you once took a vow together to love each other for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part. Unless you simply are no longer in love with your partner anymore, you should do everything in your power to make the marriage work. And when all else fails then it may be time to start the divorce process.
