Ragan Freitag is a Family Law attorney who graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy and previously served as President of the Joliet Catholic Academy Alumni Association. She went on to be one of the few women that graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina where she received both military training and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and American Government. She was elected to the Will County Board and to the Will County Forest Preserve in 2012 and was re-elected in 2016. Most recently, Ragan resigned as an elected official to take the position of the Chief of Staff for the Will County Board. Ragan joined the team at Gwendolyn J. Sterk and the Family Law Group P.C in 2017.
What do client’s look for in an attorney?
I believe clients are looking for an attorney that will not only represent their interests but also someone they can whole heartedly trust when it comes to their future, children and livelihood.
Why did you choose Family Law?
I like to say that my father helped me choose family law. My father is a funeral director and takes care of people at a very difficult time in their family’s lives. I believe I do the same, just in a different way.
What is your greatest fulfillment as a family law attorney?
My greatest fulfillment is giving our clients a sense of security and hope. I feel that once your become our client, you become a part of our law firm’s family.
How do you get away from stress and separate your work from your home life?
I throw on my running shoes, play my music and train for the Chicago Half Marathon!
Who is your hero?
Ronald Reagan. He had an old fashioned view of life, yet a new vision for the future.

What do you do in your spare time?
I spend time with my family and currently I am busy wedding planning with my fiancé, John!
What is your biggest accomplishment?
I believe my biggest accomplishment is being the first female to graduate The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in three years. This was formerly an all male institution. We females broke the mold just three years prior to me starting college.
What is a fun fact about you?
I love to travel and my most memorable trip was with my sister, Morgan, to South Africa!
What is your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas! It represents time with family and a time to give back to others.
If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
I would be an African Elephant! They are truly the “King of the Jungle” and all animals in the bush respect the elephant over any creature. They also truly do not forget a thing!
