What do Clients look for in an attorney?
I believe clients are looking for someone they can connect with- who makes them feel comfortable in all stages of their matter by helping them understand possible outcomes, help them make practical but caring decisions, and walk them through the most stressful time in their lives.
Why did you choose family law?
As a child of divorced parents, I witnessed the effect that the divorce process had on each parent. As I got older, I realized that they would have benefitted from someone who could help ease them through a difficult time and address each and every one of their concerns/issues in a compassionate manner.
What is your greatest fulfillment as a family law attorney?
My greatest fulfillment is when clients express that they felt they were truly being heard and felt that they had my undivided attention.
How do you get away from stress and separate your work from your home life?
Puzzles and music are definitely my go-to activities to get away from stress. Sometimes taking a deep breath and engaging in those activities for 10-15 helps me reset.
Who is your hero?
Definitely my mom! She is currently battling her third fight with cancer and has been a warrior each and every time with no complaint.
What is your favorite quote?
“Success is to be measured not by the position one has reached in life, but by the obstacles overcome.”
What do you do in your spare time?
Read, read, read! So much so, that I am completely engaged in “Bookstagram”, a section of Instagram that is dedicated entirely to reading new books, and various book challenges.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
Definitely being a mom to my 2-year-old daughter.
How do you like working with Gwendolyn J. Sterk and the Family Law Group, P.C.?
What brought me to Sterk Family Law was the team-oriented approach this firm takes. One of the most quoted lines I heard in my lifetime was, “it takes a village…” While that line usually applies to raising children, it applies to most relationships. It’s takes the involvement of everyone to be successful and great people.
What is a fun fact about you?
I’m a thrill seeker. I like to zip line, ride rollercoasters (including the ones on top of the Stratosphere hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada), and I never back down from new challenges (I’m coming for you, bungee jumping!)
What is your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas, hands down. Family, food, Christmas Music, colorful wrapping paper. Need I say more??
Are you connected to the counties in which you practice?
I have always lived in Cook County, but I’m also ten minutes or so away from Will County and visit often. I also considered living in Will County when searching for my first home back in 2018.
If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
A peacock because it is the most beautiful and majestic bird the world has seen.
