What do client’s look for in an attorney?

In the area of family law, especially, it is important for divorcing clients to have someone who will give them a voice.   Clients often looks for an attorney who will “fight for them” and one who will give them the voice that they may not otherwise have on their own.

Why did you choose Family Law?

I didn’t choose family law, family law choose me.  Seriously.  I did not have a desire to practice family law when I graduated from law school. I actually wanted to be a criminal defense attorney.  But as fate would have it, my first job out of law school was with a family law firm.  I have been practicing family law since then.

What is your greatest fulfillment as a family law attorney?

The greatest fulfillment as a family law attorney is after the smoke clears and the divorce is finalized, that clients send remarks of gratitude that the fight was worth it and that they were pleased with my advocacy.  It means that I did my job.

How do you get away from stress and separate your work from your home life?

Get away?  What is that?  I don’t think that I ever get away from the office.  Being a family law attorney is almost a 24/7 job.   I do however schedule a time to relax and take care of my home.

Who is your hero?

My mother; she is superwoman.

What is your favorite quote?

Are we there yet?”. Oh, this is a serious question.

“This too shall pass”, is one of my favorites. The situation that you are dealing with now seems like it is draining the life from you and you will never bounce back, knowing that everything has an expiration date and that date marks when you can start over.

What do you do in your spare time?

Play video games and spend time with my husband.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Becoming a minister and passing the Illinois bar in the first attempt.

How do you like working with Gwendolyn J. Sterk and the Family Law Group, P.C.

I LOVE IT! Working with a group of individuals who believe in the holistic approach to family law has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had the privilege of being a part of.  Everyone here is supportive to each other, clients, opposing parties, and the community.

What is a fun fact about you?

In high school, I wanted to be a Broadway star. I secretly still have that dream..

What is your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because I get to go to Memphis to visit with my family.

Are you connected to the counties in which you practice?

I am a former resident of DuPage County (lived there for approximately 4 years) and I am currently a resident in Cook County, where  I predominately practice.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I would be an Owl.  Who doesn’t want to be able to turn their head 270 degrees?
