For mental health providers working with trauma clients, quite frequently, family law matters may surface in conjunction with their diagnosis and/or treatment. In this program, Ms. Gwen Sterk will divide her time to speak to issues relating to the differences between the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act (IMDMA), how child-related matters can affect your client(s) and the legal obligations of the mental provider in the event that abuse is disclosed or if a provider is subpoenaed by the Court. Following this program will be guided activities and discussions related to family therapy.
Presented by Attorney Gwendolyn J. Sterk and Jenna Putman, Clinical Coordinator for the Division of Psychology and Counseling at Governors State University.
