What do client’s look for in an attorney?

I believe Client’s want to know that an attorney is knowledgeable and responsive to their needs.  The biggest complaint that clients have is feeling like they are in the dark about the divorce process.  An attorney who is responsive is a key component to help their client understand this process.

Why did you choose Family Law?

I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was a young child, however, when I was a junior in college, my brother made the shocking announcement that his wife was filing for divorce.  It was not something I had ever expected and over the course of the next several months I watched my brother and soon to be ex-sister-in-law negotiate the terms of their divorce, including the custody of my beloved niece.  It was then that I decided I wanted to dedicate my career to helping families through what will likely be the hardest time in their life.

What is your greatest fulfillment as a family law attorney?

I cannot describe how fulfilling it is know that you have advocated for a client to your best ability and have made a difference for that client.  Going into a trial, you usually have at least some idea of what a Judge is thinking about a case, and after the trial when you get a favorable ruling that is different than how the Judge was originally leaning is very rewarding.  The moment you are able to tell your client that the ruling is beneficial is very rewarding. Practicing in family law full time is not for the faint of heart.  It is not only stressful but highly emotional every day.  As an attorney, you either love it and enjoy seeing your clients through this time or you lose that passion.  It’s the passion that keeps you motivated to continue to help.

How do you get away from stress and separate you work from your home life?

My husband would probably tell you this isn’t my strong point.  I absolutely tend to bring the stresses home with me but try to separate the two with dedicated focus on quality family time.

Who is your hero?

I think this depends on what aspect of my life you want to know about.  I have many heroes but if i was forced to only give one, it is hands down my mother.  She is my best friend and I don’t know what I would do without her.

What is your favorite quote?

When I was in high school, I was preparing to give the commencement address and decided to include all kinds of quotes.  During that preparation, I realized you can really find a quote for just about every occasion.  The only problem with this discovery, is that has also somewhat tainted me from holding a quote near and dear.  I tend to use quotes that fit the circumstances, but really don’t have one that drives me.

What do you do in your spare time?

Spare time?  I don’t have spare time???

What is your biggest accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment would be my family.  It amazes me every day that I truly feel like I can have it all, my family, a rewarding career, and my sanity, at least most of the time.

What is a fun fact about you?

I grew up in a small town, not a small suburb of Chicago, a true downstate small town.  I remember when my home county, not even town, got its very first stoplight, it was a big deal!

What is your favorite holiday and why?

I would have to say Halloween.  I don’t even think It’s about the actual holiday but fall is my favorite season and Halloween gives me the excuse to indulge in all things fall.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I would be a dolphin.  Dolphins are smart and playful.  I feel like that is a great description of me.  I am general pretty upbeat and silly but also like to focus and work hard.
